SB19’s Justin releases “sunday morning” on streaming platforms

The jazz-infused pop track is a cover of a Maroon 5 hit

Thanks to its growing popularity and demand among music fans, Justin’ssunday morning” is now available on all streaming platforms worldwide via Sony Music Entertainment.

The track, which reimagines the Maroon 5 classic with a jazz-infused flavor, finds the SB19 member on top of his game. Over funky, irresistible melodies and lighthearted arrangements, Justin delivers a smooth serenade to brighten up the weekend.

The song is produced by RADKIDZ’s Josue, who turned the 2004 smash into a contemporary jam complementing Justin’s personality as an artist.

“sunday morning is one of my personal favorites and it’s one of my go-to karaoke staples since childhood,” the multi-talented pop act said. “I was supposed to perform the song in the Asian leg of the PAGTATAG! World Tour, but the shows got cancelled as we were resolving some internal issues. We took the chance to drop it as one of my solo releases and the rest as they say, is history. The response from the fans was overwhelming that we decided to release it officially on DSPs. We really owe it up to our supporters for the positive reception.”

Earlier this year, Justin De Dios shared the cover with a performance video set against a backdrop of scenic mountains and blue skies. The video has racked up nearly 800,000 views on YouTube.

The SB19 singer and creative director also teased the pre-save link of “sunday morning” last Friday, April 12, with a cover art capturing a photo of him wearing a black beret hat and preppy, long sleeves.

“sunday morning” serves as the second song released by Justin as a solo recording artist, following the success of his first single, “surreal,” which has amassed more than three million streams on Spotify alone in less than two months. The latter serves as Justin’s ode to meaningful coincidences and dreams.

Justin’s “sunday morning” is out now on all DSPs.

BSS (SEVENTEEN) Showcases the AI Eraser capabilities using the OPPO Reno11 F 5G

The OPPO AI Eraser feature is now available for all OPPO Reno11 Pro,    OPPO Reno11, and OPPO Reno11 F devices

AI Eraser empowers all OPPO Reno11 Series users with advanced generative AI photo editing tools and flagship experiences

                                 Before

After

BSS, the subunit of the renowned South Korean boy band SEVENTEEN as well as the newest OPPO Reno Experts, have sprung into action to showcase the capabilities of OPPO’s newly rolled out AI Eraser.

The free-to-use tool was recently rolled out to its OPPO Reno11 Series, which includes the OPPO Reno11 Pro, OPPO Reno11, and OPPO Reno11 F. It allows OPPO Reno11 Series users to easily remove objects from photos by circling them.

As a dynamic and youthful boy group who revel in self-expression, BSS (SEVENTEEN) members SEUNGKWAN, DK and HOSHI continuously create content and capture candid moments on the go. There are times, however, when a precious moment captured contains an unwanted object or background that would otherwise have resulted in the perfect shot, such as the group picture (above) with an unwanted light stand in the background.

With AI Eraser, this can easily be fixed in a flash. All they did was simply circle the unwanted light stand, and the OPPO Reno11 Series’ generative AI intelligently removed it, generating natural-looking content to fill the space. The result is the perfect composition that exactly matched their vision.

AI Eraser for the OPPO Reno11 Series is capable of accurately recognising objects from over 120 categories, including people, pets, trees, buildings, and flowers. It uses advanced generative AI to allow for class-leading, seamless edits to remove objects in the best way possible, creating natural-looking photos as a result.

OPPO Reno11 Series users can remove an unwanted object in an almost-perfect picture instantly.

AI Eraser is easy and convenient to use. Here’s a step-by-step guide:

STEP 1: Find a picture that is almost perfect

STEP 2: Tap Edit, followed by AI Eraser

STEP 3: Use Smart Lasso to draw around object, or use Paint Over to draw over an object

STEP 4: Watch the object disappear before your eyes as AI Eraser uses generative AI to intelligently fill in the blanks, so you can enjoy your perfect picture

More AI Eraser features

Smart Lasso and Paint Over are two available features under AI Eraser. Smart Lasso allows users to easily encircle unwanted subjects, making it a highly recommended feature for users who struggle with precision drawing or circling.

Paint Over serves as a valuable complement to Smart Lasso, particularly when an object in the image contains an area that users would prefer not to remove. Both features come with a slider option to adjust the stroke size for even more precise object removal.

While many external smartphones within the OPPO Reno11 Series’ price range offer object removal tools, they tend to produce results that appear noticeably edited, creating unnatural-looking elements.

“Reno11 Series is the first smartphone line at its price to feature such advanced generative AI image editing, and demonstrates OPPO’s commitment to enrich everyday experiences through technology for everyone,” said Leon Wang, Director of Reno Series Product Planning Development.

Reno11 Series users in Phiippines can experience AI Eraser via an OTA update.

For more information about the OPPO Reno11 Series and AI Eraser, please visit OPPO  visit https://www.oppo.com/ph/ or check out OPPO Philippines’ official social media pages on Facebook, YouTube, and TikTok.

Get to Know Korean Actor-Singer Kim Won Shik

Korean actor-singer Kim Won Shik is no stranger to the Philippine entertainment scene. Since he lived in the country for six and a half years, he’s familiar with local showbiz and Filipino celebrities.

Kim Won Shik opens up about his journey in the entertainment industry and how he landed a role in the Philippine adaptation of “What’s Wrong With Secretary Kim” in the latest cover of Metro Man.

In the cover story published on Metro.Style, Won Shik shared that he got scouted to be an idol trainee after helping his sister out to watch Park Shin Hye’s fan meet in Manila. This opportunity also led him to become a part of popular Korean series such as “True Beauty,” “Love Like a K-drama,” and “Alchemy of Souls.”

This rising artist considers the Philippines his second home

Prior to his acting projects, he lived in the Philippines with his sister for six years where he became fluent in English and Filipino.

He also described the country as his “second home” and expressed his love for the popular Pinoy meal liempo or pork belly.

He is now set to captivate the hearts of viewers as he portrays the role of Daniel Park in “What’s Wrong With Secretary Kim” which he describes as a rival of Paulo Avelino’s character.

“It was hard for me to act because it’s totally different. But I did my best and I put more effort into it. The whole ‘What’s Wrong With Secretary Kim’ team/family helped me a lot to finish it,” said Won Shik.

Aside from acting, he also showcased his musical talent as he recorded the series’ soundtrack “To Be With You,” which is available now on digital streaming platforms.

Gerard Butler Races Against the End of the World in Greenland, Now on Lionsgate Play

In this Gerard Butler starrer, a family navigates through an apocalyptic threat, showcasing the resilience and heroism of ordinary people in extraordinary circumstances.

How far would you go to protect your family as the world ends? In Greenland, Gerard Butler stars as John Garrity, a structural engineer who finds himself facing the ultimate test of survival as a planet-killing comet speeds towards Earth. He embarks on a perilous journey with his estranged wife (Morena Baccarin) and young son, and as cities around the globe are obliterated one after another, they witness both the darkest and brightest sides of humanity. Faced with societal breakdown and the relentless approach of the comet, their journey becomes a harrowing race against time. The family's desperate quest for safety leads them to a last-minute opportunity for salvation, offering a glimmer of hope in the face of an impending global apocalypse. Greenland is a gripping tale of resilience, love, and the indomitable will to survive against all odds.

On what attracted him to the role, Gerard Butler spoke of how the film focuses on personal stories rather than the apocalyptic background: “Rather than the typical kind of action movie where you're focusing on the bigger thing, the comet, that's almost in the background… I felt like the themes in the movie, that it was incredibly emotional and fraught and it's just this family going through hell… It wasn't your typical hero who's going up there to punch the comet in the face. This is just a simple man and a family. The hero here is almost the family unit themselves. The mother is the hero, the son is the hero. And sometimes heroism is literally just fighting enough to survive. So I really enjoy the subtleties and it took me by surprise.”

Greenland starts streaming on Lionsgate Play on PLDT Home on April 5, 2024.

First time filmmakers talk about their Puregold CinePanalo experience

There is little denying just how groundbreaking the recently concluded Puregold CinePanalo Film Festival was. The festival, held last March 15-19 at Gateway Cineplex 18, is a celebration of firsts. Not only does it mark the supermarket chain’s first foray into bringing original films to the silver screen, but it marks the debut pieces of six first-time filmmakers from all across the country.

During the Puregold CinePanalo Awards Night, the Movie Workers Welfare Foundation (Mowelfund) generously awarded a number of deserving filmmakers scholarships to continue pursuing their artistic goals.

The six debuting filmmakers–Rafaela Abucejo of the Polytechnic University of the Philippines, Dizelle C. Masilungan of the University of Sto. Tomas, Joshua Andrey A. Doce of Bicol State College of Applied Sciences and Technology, Joanah Pearl Demonteverde of the University of the Philippines Visayas, Daniel Gil of Ateneo de Davao, and Jenievive Adame–bravely answered the call to let Puregold help bring their stories to life, and competed against each other as well as 19 other selections in the student short film category. Yet, for these new directors, the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to release their stories into the world is a win in itself.

In addition to being debut films, the films were remarkable for bagging a number of prizes at the CinePanalo Film Festival. Rafaela Abucejo's film entitled "Saan Ako Pinaglihi?" won the Panalo sa mga Manonood Award (Audience Choice); Dizelle Masilungan, one of the recipients of the Mowelfund production scholarship, won Panalong Direktor, Panalo sa Cinematography, 3rd place for MTRCB's Responsableng Paglikha Award, and also saw one of his actors winning the Panalong Pangalawang Aktor Award. Likewise, Joshua Doce and Daniel Gil both received production scholarships from Mowelfund; while Jenievive Adame, who was also a recipient of the Mowelfund production scholarship, bagged a number of awards, including Panalong Ensemble, Panalo sa Musical Scoring, Always Panalo Film (brand choice), and 1st place for MTRCB's Responsableng Paglikha Award.
Rafaela Abucejo shows off their Panalo sa mga Manonood Award. Abucejo directed “Saan Ako Pinaglihi?”, a coming-of-age story about the child of two lesbian parents.

Jenievive Adame’s story “Smokey Journey” bagged plenty of trophies, including the Always Panalo Film Award.

For two of the directors from the province–Joshua Doce from Bicol (“I am Mutya and I Thank You!”) and Joanah Demonteverde from Iloilo (“Kang Pagpuli Ko”)--getting to represent their province on a big stage was a massive motivating factor in completing their films. Doce, who speaks Bikolano, and Demonteverde, who speaks Hiligaynon and Kinaray-a, both believe in the power of their movies to represent the languages and cultures they love, especially amid the swath of mostly Tagalog and English-centric entries.

“As a kid who grew up in a town whose language is a hybrid of Kinaray-a and Hiligaynon, language has been a great element to me in representing my province through filmmaking, especially in Puregold’s CinePanalo Film Festival,” says Demonteverde, who also warns viewers for the possible waterworks that may ensue from her film.

“In our country, Filipino/Tagalog ang most dominant medium na ginagamit sa films and malimit tayong makakita o makarinig ng regional dialects/language sa mga pelikula,” says Doce, “I am so proud of our language and as a filmmaker, through our dialect that I used in my films, you get to see how ‘oragon’ (great) the Bicolanos are.”
Dizelle Masilungan was one of the ceremony’s breakout stars, winning Best Director for his very first film production, “Kung Nag-aatubili.”

Meanwhile, two of the six new filmmakers–Dizelle Masilungan (“Kung Nag-aatubili”) and Rafaela Abucejo (“Saan Ako Pinaglihi?”)--released LGBT-themed short films, drawing from their personal experiences with the daily struggle that queer Filipinos face, and the joy that comes from queer love.

For Masilungan, it was crucial for him to use his very first filmmaking experience to create the BL piece of his dreams, exclaiming that he has wanted to create a BL piece since “time immemorial,” as it was queer films and literature that gave him the inspiration to carry on.

Meanwhile for Abucejo, it was important to display the flipside of the queer experience, by also displaying the real pain that queer people go through, and the strength that can come out of those experiences.

“They were not good experiences-–they were a struggle,” said Abucejo. “But at least I was able to share my narrative through the film and hopefully inspire those who are currently going through the same things.”

In their speech, Abucejo stated that they hope their win in the Audience Choice Award shows filmmakers and film producers everywhere that audiences do choose queer stories, saying, “Yung kwento po ng ‘Saan ako Pinaglihi?’ is proof na meron pong clamor for queer stories, queer narratives at masasabi ko pong galing po talaga siya sa puso namin. Patuloy nating suportahan ang kwento ng mga bakla, tomboy, and everyone in between the spectrum.”

Abucejo and Masilungan both won big for their queer films, with Masilungan bagging Best Director. On his win, the filmmaker said, “Masaya, na di ko akalain, na wala po akong masabi. Sabi ko nga yung mapalabas lang pelikula namin sa Gateway Cineplex 18 sobrang saya na ako, na makita yung mga taong pumupunta sa sinehan para panoorin yung kwentong gusto namin ikwento at pinaghirapan namin. Pero yung makatanggap ng award bilang Best Director, para sakin isang malaking karangalan, really humbled and honored. Pero I really share this award with all the cast and crew ng Familea Films, kay Sir Nico at Lucca Creatives, and January Skies.”

Finally, the last two new directors–Daniel Gil (“Distansya”) and Jenievive Adame (“Smokey Journey”)--sought to use the platform to create more family-oriented and wholesome films that everyone can come to enjoy and reflect on the love that only family can offer.

In the words of Adame, viewers can expect her film to wrap the seemingly simple theme of family with layers of both hidden meaning and earnest sincerity.

“Since the festival itself is only for family-oriented, inspiring, and wholesome film concepts,” says Adame, “what you can expect from my film is the deep bond, love, and unity within a typical Filipino family na hindi namin pinakita literal pero mararamdaman mo.”

As for Gil, whose story was inspired by his father teaching him how to drive, he wanted to use his film as a vehicle for recognizing all the solo parent fathers who show up to raise their kids right, even when said fathers aren’t always understood from the start.

“I hope people will find this film nostalgic,” said Gil. “Especially to the kids who grew up with parents who had a hard time searching for their parenting skills and finding it as they get to know their children more as their family grows older.”

Ronjay-C Mendiola and his team won big at the Puregold CinePanalo Film Festival, racking up awards including Pinakapanalong Maikling Pelikula, for his film “Last Shift,” about two queer lovers forced to choose between their relationship and their diverging paths in life.

In addition to the debut filmmakers, the Puregold CinePanalo Film Festival’s short film category also saw two big winners in neophyte directors Ronjay-C Mendiola and Kent Michael Cadungog. Mendiola nabbed the Pinakapanalong Maikling Pelikula Award (Best Short Film) for his film “Last Shift,” a story about two working-class queer lovers at a crossroads in their relationship, as one seeks to find better pastures. Cadungog, on the other hand, won the Special Jury Prize Award for “Text Find DAD and Send to 2366,” a tale about an uncharismatic teenage girl who must convince a voice to cast her in a reality TV show, in order to find her father.

On his historic win, Mendiola says the feeling still hasn’t sunk in.

“Sabi nga namin sa prod, pumasok kami ng awards night nang walang expectations pero sobra-sobra pa ang ibinigay sa amin,” said Mendiola. “Ang pinaka importante talaga sa amin nung mag-umpisa ang film festival ay hindi yung awards kundi ang mabitbit namin ang panawagan ng mga workers at maexpose ang kanilang kalagayan."

Kent Cadungog won the Special Jury Prize for “Text Find Dad and Send to 2366,” a story about a teenager using reality TV to find her lost father.

Meanwhile, Cadungog is grateful to Puregold for allowing him to fully express his art which, according to him, has often been misunderstood.

"I got called “baliw” so many times for creating the kind of cinema I make, so I’m very grateful to Puregold for giving this niche comedy film a platform. Maraming salamat din sa jury sa pagkilala,” said Cadungog, who also takes pride in being one of the short films set in the province, using a regional language. “Yung pagrecognize sa isang munting Bisaya film galing sa Negros Oriental ay isa ring malaking panalo, in and of itself — true to the festival’s vision."

Bradley Simpson drops debut single “Cry At The Moon”

Bradley Simpson has released his highly anticipated debut single “Cry At The Moon”- available everywhere today via Insanity UK and Sony Music Entertainment.

“Cry At The Moon” was cowritten by Bradley, Andrew Wells, Anthony Rossomando, and Jordan Asher Cruz aka “BOOTS”.

“Cry At The Moon started in LA early on in the writing process for the album with Anthony and Andrew. I knew I wanted to draw on influences I grew up on, we spent the first 2 hours of the session listening through bands we loved, lots of Queens of the Stone Age and Raconteurs. As the melody for the chorus came together, we built around that.  It was exactly how I wanted to move forward with the sound of the album, and it opened the writing process for me. CATM became the catalyst for that sound as it went on a bit of a journey. I met Boots a few months after, and we decided to do the entire album together. We went back in on CATM, made some tweaks to really pull it in line with the rest of the album as CATM always felt like the song to introduce everyone into the world with, I genuinely can’t wait to play it live!”

Watch the Wiz directed music video for “Cry At The Moon” HERE.

Bradley, best known for his role as singer, songwriter, and front man of British band The Vamps, commands a massive fanbase, already with multiple chart-topping albums in the UK. At just 28, Bradley's transition from band front man to solo artist is driven by his personal song collection, signaling an exciting new chapter in his career.

Bradley will preview songs from the upcoming album and make his solo performance debut of “Cry At The Moon” on a sold-out run of headline shows this Spring in the UK, Europe, New York and Los Angeles.

Bradley is currently working his debut album to be released soon.

SB19’s Josh Cullen and breakthrough rapper Al James join forces in “Yoko Na”

P-Pop star Josh Cullen and prolific rapper Al James come together in “Yoko Na,” their collaborative new single released under Sony Music Entertainment.

Lyrics-wise, “Yoko Na” expresses the words left unsaid in the middle of a relationship fallout. It acknowledges how a kind of love that was once full of life and promises could suddenly fall apart even after trying one’s best to stick it out until the very end.

The song bears the hallmarks of a summer anthem, thanks to its infectious rap verses from both artists, an inescapable chorus, and a vibrant arrangement that blends modern hip-hop and R&B sensibilities with emotional flair.

Brian Lotho, who co-produced the track with Josh, captures the essence of the lyrics with steely defiance, adding an extra layer of authenticity by injecting unique elements such as the sound of bottles shattering, tables flipping, and other little sonic details that evoke irreparable brokenness.

“Well, Yoko Na is like the product of a soul-baring session with my producer, Brian Lotho,” Josh Cullen explains. “For this particular jam, we traded cliched love stories with messy, real-life situations that ordinary people encounter on a daily basis: the frustrations and struggles from past relationships, and somehow confronted it with a more mature take. It's a song that's raw, honest, and straight from the heart.”

The partnership came to fruition after realizing that Al James’ style of laid-back rapping somehow fits the demo that Brian and Josh have been working on for months. Josh admits that he mustered the courage to ask the viral hitmaker to be part of the track despite the short notice. Luckily, Al James said yes and sent his verse a few days ahead of the deadline.

When asked about how Al James is as a collaborator, he said nothing but praise for the Pa-umaga act.

“He’s very chill. He submitted the reworked track ahead of time and recorded his parts in less than an hour. I really admire his level of professionalism. After that, we just bonded instantly and went on a food trip.”

Josh Cullen and Al James’ “Yoko Na” is out now on all digital music platforms worldwide via Sony Music Entertainment.
